ABOUT THE SUMMER CAMP

The summer camp is a 1 month camp that focuses mainly on the sport of boxing that will also deliver the Boxing Evolution ‘Full potential course’. The course focuses on developing mental strength, self discipline, self control, emotional regulation aiming to instill the character traits needed to become successful in life.

The intention of this camp is to help provide a solution to the problem of young people having nothing to do, whilst at the same time help to combat the current climate of gang related gun and knife crime by inspiring and encouraging young people to aim for something better in their lives by focusing on the positive rather than the negative.

The camp is also excellent for things such as fitness, co-ordination, speed and agility, weight loss and also helps to develop higher self esteem, confidence, and social inclusion too, to name but a few.

CAMP DAYS ,TIMES AND AGES

The camp is run throughout the entire month of august, 3 days per week, Monday, Wed and Friday, commencing Monday 5th of August and ending on Fri 30th of August.

The times for the different sessions are:

  • Juniors – 1.30pm to 2.30pm (10 -13 yrs)
  • Seniors – 2.30pm to 4pm (14-16 yrs)

There may be changes made to the groups to allow for developmental differences.

THE CAMP PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

The senior camp consists of 30 minutes of the course and 1 hour of practical boxing skills. The childrens and junior lessons consist of 1 hour boxing skills sessions only and are based around the Boxing Evolution Junior philosophy.

The boxing skills sessions are based around the non-contact ABA boxing award scheme which involves teaching the basics of non contact amateur boxing, such as stance /guard, footwork along with all the related punches and defenses. A certificate and medal are awarded upon completion. 

Alongside the boxing skills, there will be other activities to include strength and conditioning, team building games and an induction to using the gym in the leisure center which will enable the young person to continue their fitness journey after the summer camp has completed.

EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING NEEDED

All of the necessary boxing equipment will be provided, which will be gloves, skipping ropes and additional training equipment. Gloves for personal use can be purchased for £25. It is also recommended having a fitted gum shield as an additional protection against accidents.

Clothing suitable for training such as tracksuits/shorts and t-shirts/vests along with suitable footwear will need to be worn. It is also recommended to bring a large bottle of water to avoid dehydration too.

In this interview I catch up with Amar Kayani who was one of my first ever students and started boxing by attending the summer camp..

He is now an amazing success story! After the camp Amar went on to win the National A.B.A championships and had now turned pro.  He also runs his own gym and youth projects with Kayani Camp in Slough.

We talk about what he took away from the camp and how it helped him. Its great to see how far he has come and I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for him.

I had ADHD and needed something to drain my energy

Adam Azim who is a professional boxer aged 20 from Slough who is hailed as an amazing future talent by many boxing pundits. Adam is currently the European super lightweight title.

This is great news for Boxing Evolution coaching as Adam Azim first started boxing aged 7 when he attended the Boxing Evolution summer camp.

His Dad initially wanted Adam to get involved with boxing because he had so much excess energy due to having ADHD.   ‘I was really hyperactive as a kid and dad wanted me to be a boxer because I was so enthusiastic,’

The camp is paid for by a one off payment upfront for the whole month. The fees are:

  • £150 for the Senior camp

MEET THE COACH

I’m Matt Flavell, the founder of Boxing Evolution, where for over 15 years, I’ve dedicated myself to reshaping 1000’s of people’s lives helping them reach their full potential, through the power of boxing, underpinned by teaching the psychology of success and mentorship. 

I currently work as a boxing coach and youth mentor with schools and other organisations such as youth offending teams in the Berkshire area through Boxing Evolution’s Alternate Education Provision.

The following is the story about my personal journey, one that intertwines my coaching experiences, my deep involvement in boxing and martial arts, and a personal voyage of self-discovery born from challenging life circumstances that I ultimately overcame to achieve success.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

General Information

  1. The Boxing Summer camp is organised and run  by Boxing Evolution Ltd. All financial transactions are contracted with Boxing Evolution LTD.
  2. Camp Duration and Schedule:

    • The camp consists of 12 sessions, conducted over 4 weeks.
    • Sessions are held three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
    • Junior Camp (ages 10-13): Each session lasts 1 hour.
    • Senior Camp (ages 14-16): Each session lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  3. Payment Terms:

    • Full payment for the camp is required 1 week in advance of the camp’s commencement.
    • Once paid, the camp fees are non-refundable.
    • To secure a place in the camp, a non-refundable deposit of £40 can be paid prior to making the full payment.
  4. Attendance and Punctuality:

    • Participants are expected to attend sessions on time.
    • If a participant arrives more than 10 minutes late, participation in that session may be refused.
  5. Parental/Guardian Consent and Responsibilities:

    • Parents/guardians must sign a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) and a boxing and sparring permission slip for insurance purposes.
    • A photography consent form will also be requested to  be signed, allowing the camp to take and use photographs for promotional purposes.
    • Parents/guardians are welcome to remain present during the sessions. If not present, they must be available to collect their child immediately if necessary.
  6. Behaviour Policy:

    • All participants are expected to adhere to the camp’s behaviour policy. Inappropriate behaviour may result in exclusion from the camp without refund.
  7. Medical and Safety Requirements:

    • Any medical conditions or special requirements must be disclosed on the PAR-Q form.
    • Participants must wear appropriate boxing attire, including gloves, headgear, and mouthguards.
  8. Emergency Procedures:

    • In the event of an emergency, the camp staff will follow established emergency procedures to ensure the safety of all participants.
    • Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately in the case of an emergency involving their child.
  9. Insurance and Liability:

    • The camp is insured, but participation in boxing involves certain risks. By enrolling their child, parents/guardians acknowledge and accept these risks.
  10. Code of Conduct:

    • Participants must show respect to coaches, staff, and fellow participants.
    • Any form of bullying, harassment, or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated.
  11. Equipment and Facilities:

    • All equipment and facilities provided by the camp must be used responsibly.
    • Any damage to equipment or facilities caused by a participant may result in a charge to the parent/guardian.
  12. Changes and Cancellations:

    • The camp reserves the right to make changes to the schedule or cancel sessions if necessary. Participants will be notified of any changes in advance.
    • In the event of a camp cancellation, a pro rata refund or alternative arrangement will be provided.

By enrolling their child in the Boxing Summer Camp, parents/guardians agree to these terms and conditions.

BEHAVIOUR POLICY

The Boxing Summer Camp aims to provide a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for all participants. The following behaviour policy outlines the expectations for all attendees to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.

General Conduct

  1. Respect:

    • All participants must show respect towards coaches, staff, and fellow participants at all times.
    • Offensive language, bullying, and harassment will not be tolerated.
  2. Punctuality:

    • Participants are expected to arrive on time for all sessions. Late arrivals (more than 10 minutes) may be refused participation in that session.
  3. Participation:

    • All participants must actively engage in the activities and follow the instructions of the coaches.
    • Disruptive behaviour that hinders the progress of the session or the safety of others is prohibited.
    • The sessions are designed to be challenging and some of the fitness aspects may be tough for those who are not used to it. It is important to give it your best effort, and if you are finding something difficult then communicate that with the coach. 
  4. Safety:

    • Participants must adhere to all safety rules and regulations provided by the coaches.
    • Proper boxing attire and equipment, including gloves, headgear, and mouthguards, must be worn during all sessions.

Specific Behavioural Expectations

  1. Physical Conduct:

    • Physical aggression or violence  is strictly prohibited.
    • Participants must practice controlled and disciplined sparring as instructed by the coaches.
  2. Attitude and Effort:

    • A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and improve are expected from all participants.
    • Encouragement and support of fellow participants are highly encouraged.
  3. Use of Facilities and Equipment:

    • All camp facilities and equipment must be used responsibly and with care.
    • Any damage caused to equipment or facilities may result in a charge to the parent/guardian of the responsible participant.
  4. Communication:

    • Open and respectful communication with coaches and staff is encouraged.
    • Any concerns or issues should be brought to the attention of a coach or staff member immediately.

Consequences of Misconduct

  1. Warnings:

    • Minor breaches of the behaviour policy will result in a verbal warning from the coach or staff member.
  2. Time-Out:

    • Continued minor breaches or more serious misconduct may result in the participant being given a time-out from the session.
  3. Parental Involvement:

    • For repeated or serious breaches of the behaviour policy, parents/guardians will be contacted to discuss the participant’s behaviour.
  4. Suspension or Expulsion:

    • In cases of severe or persistent misconduct, the participant may be suspended or expelled from the camp. No refunds will be issued in such cases.

Bullying and Harassment

  1. Zero Tolerance:

    • The camp maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying and harassment of any kind.
  2. Reporting:

    • Any instances of bullying or harassment should be reported to a coach or staff member immediately.
  3. Investigation and Action:

    • All reports of bullying or harassment will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
    • Appropriate action will be taken to address and resolve the issue.

Appeals

  1. Process:
    • If a participant or parent/guardian wishes to appeal a disciplinary decision, they may submit a written appeal to the camp director.
    • The appeal will be reviewed, and a decision will be communicated within a reasonable time frame.

Acknowledgement

By enrolling in the Boxing Summer Camp, participants and their parents/guardians agree to abide by this behaviour policy. Adherence to these guidelines ensures a positive and safe environment for all.
